eTIN Registration (Taxpayers Identification Number) is an electronic certificate issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) in Bangladesh. As of 2026, significant modernization efforts have transformed the eTIN process through integration with BanglaBiz 2.0, the unified investment portal launched by BIDA in partnership with JICA [citation:1].
eTIN is a 12-digit electronic tax identification number issued to individuals and companies for income tax purposes. Since July 1, 2013, all new taxpayers receive this 12-digit eTIN. It is essential for bank loans, credit cards, trade licenses, import/export activities, and VAT registration [citation:6].
In February 2026, BIDA launched BanglaBiz 2.0, a fully integrated end-to-end service portal that revolutionizes business registration. The platform includes a Business Starter Package that combines five essential approvals into a single application: [citation:1][citation:5]
With this integrated system, investors can complete business registration within just three working days. The platform also integrates over 20 frequently required approvals including environmental clearance, VAT registration, factory and fire safety licences, and import/export registration certificates [citation:1].
The NBR and BIDA are working to simplify e-TIN issuance to foreign investors by integrating their respective systems. Currently, only Bangladeshi investors can obtain e-TINs from the One-Stop Service (OSS) platform. Once integration is complete, foreign investors will be able to get e-TINs directly from the OSS platform without visiting NBR offices [citation:3].
The NBR is making it mandatory to incorporate e-TINs in the bill of entry for importers. This integration with the Asycuda World system will allow income tax authorities to crosscheck import data and detect tax evasion. Importers must provide their e-TINs with the bill of entry in the Asycuda World system [citation:2].
Taxpayers can register for eTIN through multiple channels:
Every fiscal year, NBR organizes an event at Dhaka's Officers Club where taxpayers can collect and submit their tax returns and TIN registrations efficiently.
🚀 Ongoing Modernization: SDRMP ProjectThe government has launched the Strengthening Domestic Revenue Mobilisation Project (SDRMP) with World Bank assistance (Tk 1009.20 crore) running from July 2025 to June 2030. Key upgrades include: [citation:4]
